International Day of Yoga

Today is the United Nations International Day of Yoga.  This year’s theme is Yoga for Health – Yoga at Home.  With the COVID-19 pandemic has lead to social distancing measures across the world, this year’s Day of Yoga looks a bit different.  I feel fortunate to be able to still find ways to practice with others from home using social media and video conferencing tools.  It makes the world seem so much more connected in some ways.  The word “yoga” is a Sanskrit word that means “union”.  This day is a way for us to come together (in whatever ways we can) as people who share so many of the same struggles.  Similar challenges and difficulties as well as similar joys and happiness.  Yoga helps us unite our mind and body as well.  To find our own union, as well as union with others.

I recently attended a yoga training course with yoga teachers from around the world.  We decided to put together a video for international yoga day that shows the many benefits of yoga that we experience.  How much we are different and yet alike.   And the reach of these tools we call yoga.  May all beings be peaceful.
